Citizen participation to understand the aftermath of the Covid-19 lockdown

A team of researchers in Switzerland, co-led by Prof. Daniel Gatica-Perez (Idiap Research Institute and one of the WeNet partners), is investigating how Swiss residents are developing strategies to adapt to and cope with the nationwide lockdown situation and its aftermath, and how a citizen science approach can both inform researchers and support people in information sharing and community building activities.

The team includes researchers in urban sociology and urban systems at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (Prof. Vincent Kaufmann, Prof. Claudia Binder, Prof. Ulli Vismaier) and in psychology at the University of Lausanne (Prof. Marie Santiago).

Contributors to the study can use the Civique mobile app developed at Idiap to report how they adapt week after week, by sharing opinions about the situation, personal experiences, photos that capture these changes, and perspectives on what the future could look like. Contributors will also be able to take part in interactive discussions about these themes. These activities will complement the insights obtained from online surveys.
