Towards Increasing Diversity in Datasets

Daniel Gatica-Perez, Head of the Social Computing Group of WeNet partner Idiap Research Institute, recently gave two online invited talks on the theme “Towards Increasing Diversity in Datasets” at the ICCV Workshop on Understanding Social Behavior in Dyadic and Small Group Interactions (Oct 16, 2021) and the ACM ICMI Int. Workshop on Corpora and Tools for Social Skills Annotation (Oct 18, 2021).

The talks discussed strategies that have combined the use of mobile technology with action research, citizen science, and multi-country protocols, including some of the activities of WeNet. At the core of the discussion was the concept of citizens and communities’s support in the creation of research resources that are more diverse and relevant to the public.
