Highlights from “Multidisciplinary Aspects of Diversity”, a WeNet webinar

On September 22, 2021, WeNet organised this event as its 2nd Engagement Workshop, featuring presentations and debate on the multidisciplinary aspects of diversity central to the project’s work under the motto “Diversity as a fundamental element of the design of AI architecture”, to paraphrase one of the most poignant statements from the event.

In the webinar, after a general introduction to WeNet by Project Coordinator Fausto Giunchiglia (University of Trento), project partners from several countries and disciplines (technology, sociology, ethics and diversity design) took part in a central panel, expressing and discussing their take on the delicate balance of diversity and technological development, under the moderation by George Gaskell (The London School of Economics). The panel speakers included Ivano Bison (University of Trento), Daniel Gatica-Perez (IDIAP), Paula Helm, (University of Tübingen) and Amalia De Götzen (Aalborg University).

The event closed on a guest talk by Batya Friedman, Co-Director of the Value Sensitive Design Lab of the University of Washington, which included an interactive session on diversity design with the audience.
